New Year’s Goal – 52 hikes in 2019!

52 hikes

This is a short walk near where we live.

My goal is to complete 52 hikes in 2019.  This is one of my outdoor goals for the new year.  This goal ensures that I’ll do a lot of hiking in 2019.

I have enjoyed hiking for the past 20 years or so.  I was introduced to hiking back during my college days at the University of California at Santa Barbara.  I quickly learned to love it because it was such good exercise and time spent in nature.  Over the years I’ve done a lot of hiking, visiting some special places, such as trekking in Nepal with my kids.  However, I’ve never set a goal to do a certain number of hikes during the year.

This is the year that I make it happen.  I am going to take 52 hikes during 2019.

I can’t take the credit for this idea as I saw another outdoor blogger wrote about this and I love the idea.  I’ve made goals for other things, such as reading 24 books in a year, or running a marathon.  Up to now I’ve never had a specific goal like this related to hiking.

This goal is a great reason to make sure that I force myself to get out and go for a hike.

How Will I Achieve My 2019 New Year’s Outdoor Goal Of 52 Hikes?

I have learned that the key to writing and achieving goals is to  be specific and measurable.

Remember the key to meeting big, seemingly enormous goals is to set good daily routines and then work at those small tasks day after day.  Then over time you will make progress and eventually meet your big goal.

Well, you may have noticed that my goal of 52 hikes is the same number of weeks in the year.  Thus, I will go for one hike a week.

About My 52 Hikes Goal

Notice that my goal is for me to go for 52 hikes during 2019, not for my family.

I love hiking with my family, but I realize that there will be times when my kids can’t join me.  Over the course of the year my goal is to have the kids join me for at least 2/3 (35) of the hikes.  That may seem like a lot, but over the course of the year it’s very achievable.
