Happy 9th birthday to my son, Bodhi today! It has been so much fun hiking, camping, fishing, and exploring nature together over the past 8 years.
This is another bit of a personal post as I want to wish my son a happy birthday. Only two weeks ago it was my daughter’s birthday and now it is my son’s! This is the time of year that we call the celebration season because we celebrate all of our birthdays. Today I just want to take a minute to look back at some of the fun times that we have spent together in the outdoors.
We’ve Been Creating Memories Together Exploring Nature
I’ve heard and completely agree that its important to have shared experiences with your children. Those experiences are so much more meaningful than just gifts or presents. I would rather spend a day out on a trail or camping than a day sitting around the house.
When I think back I remember loads of fun adventures that I’ve shared with my son. I hope that we will have lots more adventures together and when my son is my age he will recall some of these outdoor adventures that we shared together.
Some Of Our Memories/Adventures Exploring Nature Together
When he was a little guy we used to do lots of hiking. We just kept to shorter trails and made sure we had lots of fun.
Camping with Bodhi has always been lots of fun. Thankfully, he is a good sleeper.
As he got older he started running a lot of the time on the trail. All of a sudden we noticed that he really enjoyed running. When he goes hiking its as if he channels his inner Forest Gump, running all the time.
This was such a cool moment. We were camping on an island near Glacier Bay NP with some friends. He looked over to the water where we saw some fish rising and he said, ‘I’m going to go catch that fish and eat it.’ I gave him a fishing pole and we walked over to the water. Then on his first cast he caught this fish, which we cooked and he ate. So cool.
This was an amazing trip. One thing I remember about it is that we had bought him some cheap shoes for the hike. Bad idea! We had done a lot of hiking beforehand and his shoes were fine. But, half way through this hike his shoes literally started falling apart. Look closely at the photo and you can see the soles are held on with tape! He was such a good sport about it, not complaining too much and still hiking faster than us.
