Get Unplugged!

Get off of your electronic gadgets when you are out exploring the Rocky Mountains.

no phone.jpgThe whole point of going and spending time in nature with your children is to get away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives.  Take the time to look around the amazing Rocky Mountains.  I promise, you will survive if you can not check your email, text messages, phone calls, twitter, or anything else for an hour or a few hours.

Do it for your kids.

People spend time and lots of money going to mindfulness meditation classes…which is really all about teaching us to focus on the here and now.  That is what you should be doing when you are out in nature – focus on what is around you.  Don’t be looking down at your phone to read the latest texts that came in.

If you have spent the time to go for a hike, a picnic, or simply to get outside in nature with your children then you obviously cared enough about being out in nature to take the time out of your busy life to find somewhere to go and to go there.  But, now you must take the next step and either leave your phone in the car or at the least put it on airplane mode so that it will not be distracting you.

If you are enjoying a nice day in the mountains with your family but then you get a text message and you stop everything and stare down at your phone for a few minutes then you are not paying attention to where you are.  Your kids will get the message that it is nice to spend time outdoors in nature, but the cell phone is more important than that.

Remember everything that we do and don’t do gives messages to our children.  Our actions speak louder than our words.

So, please get unplugged the next time you are out in nature with your family!
